Asiantii Woulard Elite 11 MVP

Asiantii Woulard is the MVP of the 2012 Elite 11 Competition. Will Asianti Woulard still go to the University of Southern Florida or will he change schools? How much better can he get? What other schools will now offer Asiantii Woulard scholarships to play quarterback now that he's won the MVP of the 2012 Elite 11 show on ESPN that Trent Dilfer hosts?

The Elite 11 Competition has been going on for about 14 years. It was started by a guy named Andy Bark. Andy Bark was a quarterback at Cal (The University of California - at Berkeley) in his younger days. One of the other guys who's very active in the Elite 11 community is a guy named Yogi Roth. Yogi Roth was the host of the 2012 Elite 11 Finals. Yogi played wide receiver at the University of Pittsburgh. He actually played receiver at Pitt while Larry Fitzgerald was also playing wide receiver there. While Fitzgerald was breaking NCAA records for things like the most consecutive games with a touchdown reception Yogi Roth was happy to be a scholarship player on the team there. Yogi first started at Pitt as a walk-on and eventually earned a scholarship.

Let's get back to Elite 11 News.

Asiantii Woulard is a beast. He's only been playing quarterback for a little over a year. A couple of seasons ago he was playing receiver. It's a good thing he found his talent at the quarterback position. Asiantii Woulard is from a place called Winter Park, Florida and he's verbally committed to the University of Southern Florida which is not to be confused with Central Florida. The University of Southern Florida has green and black as a couple of their main colors and the school is often abbreviated as USF. USF has a respectable football program, but a lot of the USF fans are concerned that Asiantii Woulard might change schools now that he's won the MVP at the Elite 11.

Basically, players just recently got their official offer letters, but signing day isn't until February. Players like Asiantii Woulard can't sign on the dotted line until February, until then anything is fair game in terms of changing his mind as more offers potentially come in. It's rumored that after such a strong showing in the Elite 11 competition that aired on ESPN that Asianti will have more options and might jump ship to go to the University of Florida. A lot of times players feel an allegiance to the first school that really shows a lot of interest in them. There's also the factor that Asiantii probably wants to stay close to home, a lot of guys do and there's nothing wrong with that. It's great for their family members to be able to come see them play, etc. when it's only a short drive.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Asiantii Woulard and his football career. He's like a piece of clay that coaches like George Whitfield want to sculp and mold because he has so much raw talent. During the filming of the Elite 11 show that aired on ESPN Asiantii Woulard did numerous interviews throughout the week. It's really impressive that he won the MVP after not even being ranked in the top 11 when the first list was posted.

Asianti excelled in 7 on 7 and didn't make mistakes. He capped off his week with an extremely impressive performance in the pressure cooker which is very similar to a 2 minute drill. Trent Dilfer and the other coaches like Carson Palmer had all the players going up and down the field. Asiantii originally scored on his first play during the Pressure Cooker. However, Jordan Palmer and the other coaches like Matt James decided that in order to better evaluate Asiantii Woulard to compare him to other guys competing for the MVP award like Christian Hackenberg and Max Browne and Kevin Olsen and others they'd give the guys who threw touchdowns in less than four plays another series to show what they've got. The guys who threw TDs within their first four balls during the pressure cooker included Austin Allen (Austin is committed to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where his dad is a coach - earlier in the week during the Elite 11 competition Austin Allen won the Golden Jersey during the accuracy competition one day one when he scored 21 points while the 25 quarterbacks scrambled around the field throwing at various targets of differing lengths), Riley Ferguson (who is going to the University of Tennessee and hurt the thumb on his throwing hand earlier in the week - despite hurting his thumb before any of the quarterback drills event started Riley's competitiveness landed him a spot on the first Elite 11 rankings that were posted by host Yogi Roth in the weight room at Redondo Union High School where the show was filmed and the competition took place.

The third quarterback to throw a touchdown within his first four plays during the pressure cooker was Asiantii Woulard. With very little warmup he came back onto the field for the last drive and actually the last series of plays or throws for any player of the entire week. After quickly getting down the field with his first two or three throws he took a sack on 1st down when he was around the 20 yard line. Eventually Asiantii Woulard found himself in 4th and 15 from the 25 with seconds remaining and his shot at the MVP award on the line. This could not have been more dramatic. Asianti Woulard threw a touchdown strike on fourth down to all but lock up the MVP award.

However, Ashanti Woulard still had to beat out a couple of the big dogs like Christian Hackenberg who is committed to Penn State. Hackenberg has continued to stick with Penn State despite all the sanctions and bad press that the PSU Nittany Lions have received. Hackenberg has the most pro ready body, but Asanti Woulard will be a force in college because of his legs and the upside of having not played quarterback very long. Max Browne is a 6'5" quarterback who is going to USC with the hopes of following in the footsteps of so many USC quarterbacks before him who have gone onto play in the NFL like Carson Palmer, Matt Cassell, Mark Sanchez, Matt Leinart, and soon to be Matt Barkley.

The story here is not that Shane Morris had a disappointing performance or that Jared Goff who is going to Cal (like Elite 11 founder Andy Bark) had a solid performance all-week, but rather the fact that Asiantii Woulard won the MVP of the Elite 11 show that was on ESPN on August 14 with the first episode airing on Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Other characters from the show include Maleek Zaire who is going to play QB at Notre Dame in a couple of years. A lot of people forget that these guys are just going to be Seniors in high school in a month and are just now starting the last seasons of their high school careers. These guys aren't in college yet. They are only verbally committed. 96% of the QBs in the show are committed to colleges. Most of them are big time commitments like Tyrone Swoopes who is going to the University of Texas. Tyrone Swoopes is the nephew of Cheryl Swoopes, who was possibly the best female basketball player of all-time. Cody Thomas is planning to go the the University of Oklahoma where he's going to play baseball and football. He's a really good athlete.

Brice Ramsey is going the University of Georgia. Danny Etling is going to Purdue University where he'll be an underdog most of the time, in almost all of the games they play in the Big 10. There's also Anthony Jennings who is going to LSU. Devante Kincade has the nickname switchblade and he'll go Ole Miss. JT Barrett is another quarterback from the Elite 11 and he is going to Ohio State. Shane Morris was highly touted coming into this competition and is going to the University of Michigan and is from Michigan. Zack Greenlee is the guy who has the least amount of offers. He really just has one D-I offer and it's from Fresno State. He wants to go to a BCS school like UCLA to play football. There is also Johnny Stanton who is going to the University of Nebraska. It seems like he'll be a really good fit there. His nickname is Johnny Tebow.  Austin Allen is going to Arkansas. Shane Cockerille is going to the University of Maryland. Zach Allen is going to Syracuse. Kevin Olsen is the younger brother of NFL tight end Greg Olsen and Kevin is going to the University of Miami like his older brother. Greg Olsen was a TE with the Chicago Bears for a number of years (and a disappointing fantasy football player) before joining the Carolina Panthers recently.

Luke Del Rio is the son of NFL coach Jack Del Rio. Luke Del Rio is supposed to go to Oklahoma State next year. That is where Luke Del Rio is verbally committed to. A year ago at this time Luke Del Rio had never played in a Varsity game and now a lot of stuff is lining up for him now that he's made the Elite 11. Jack Del Rio coached the Jacksonville Jaguars for a long time but now is a new offensive coordinator with the Denver Broncos which should be interesting because Peyton Manning is on the Broncos and Luke Del Rio will be able to learn from him too. Trent Dilfer really loves coaching these guys and doing this event. He's very passionate about it. Trent won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens when they defeated the NY Giants after the 2000 NFL season.

The point of all of this is that it's interesting that Asianti Woulard came from behind to win the MVP of the Elite 11 2012 quarterback competition that was on ESPN in a dramatic fashion when Trent announced his name on the podium on the football field with lots of fans an cameras looking on. It'll be really interesting to follow the upside of Asianti Woulard who is new to the quarterback position.
